Reflection Report
Oil Street has added ten free exhibition projects, a collection of different art installations. Two of those ten exhibition projects attack my eyeball the most. They are Phantom Island and Space data receiving as they provide in-depth information for me to reflect on instead of only giving out beautiful images. Also, the concept behind it is helpful for my final-year project, which is to inspire my idea and the present way of my project.
Phantom Island first attracts me by its simple scene layout. When I entered the exhibition, I could easily find that it described the topic of islands. Even if I didn't start to explore this exhibition, it simulated small islands one by one, and they were movable. Let me know if it is about the issue of island movement or reclamation. The second thing that attracts me is the detailed exhibition's content. It was mentioned in class that the objects or materials put down by the artist in the exhibition are all carefully considered and decided; everything must have the meaning he wants to express, so I kept paying attention to the corners of the exhibition when I visited, and found that there were some construction waste or garbage stored under the island as if implying our environment, always accompanied by debris that has not been disposed of is floating in the ocean.
Regarding the three questions, I want to ask the artist first: why not just put the garbage under the island in a place that is easier to find, such as a display cabinet? Will the hidden information cause people to miss the exhibition's content because they can't find the details? Second: Will changing the projection method of an exhibition affect the effect of the exhibition? The projection of the images in the exhibition is on the ground, if it is projected on the wall, more people may pay attention. Third: Why did you choose reclamation as the research target? Oil Street attracts many topics, such as its historical predecessor; why select a topic that can happen elsewhere for research?
About introspection. First, the details of the work. After watching Phantom island, I noticed that the work's message does not have to be straightforward. Leaving it in the details of the work can deepen the level of the work. Second, the description method of the story. It can be brought into the theme through related topics to increase the information. For example, the author first mentioned the predecessor of Oil Street and then got the reclamation issue. Finally, the expression method of the image, the image of the work is mainly scattered in, can better promote readers' thinking and is beneficial for my documentary's content.
Space data receiving first attract me by its decoration. The exhibition presents a sense of mystery and futurism through the dark environment and some furnishings that are not usually seen. Second, the multi-faceted nature of its information. The works draw materials from the local characteristics and history of Oil Street and use fictional maps, and images Devices and other forms are formed. It is not only innovative but also brings out multiple issues.
For the artist's question, first: how to achieve the balance of indoor light? Although the exhibition is dark, the interior is still visible through the exhibition machines, such as projectors. I want to know how to balance light and dark without affecting perception. Second: Why not provide annotations for the installation? Most of them have hidden meanings, and the public may need help understanding the importance of the exhibition. Third, how can the audience's information be beneficial to the exhibition? The work provides an online platform for the audience to participate in the content of the work. How to ensure that the participation of the audience is beneficial to the message the author wants to convey?
About introspection. First, the way the media presents itself. In work, the message is expressed through sound, image and decoration. This is a comprehensive method that the five senses of the audience can perceive. Second, it is also the details of the work. The audience can use the Filtered information needed to prompt them to think and deepen their impression of the work. Finally, the interactive nature of the work. The work provides an online platform for the audience to participate and increase communication with the audience. Similar links can be added to my documentaries. The audience can interact with each other and deepens their insights or impressions about the topic I want to discuss.
